Classic Black and Gold - Tres Chic

I have to admit, I loved these handles the very first time I laid eyes on them but as soon as I put them on the dresser, I worried they might be too over the top and I started to second guess myself. Luckily this handsome piece is for my Sister-in-Law who loves a bold statement and doesn't hesitate to tell me the truth. Thankfully, the truth is this black and gold combo looks, in a word, amazing!

I'm not sure about the age of this piece, though I did find some very interesting memorabilia hidden in the drawers of this old Thomasville dresser. Which has me wondering about the debonair gentleman who surely once owned it.

Honestly, this dresser was a thing of beauty before I every laid a finger on it...

Plus, it had these great built-in drawer dividers and jewelry holders. And this is why I love old furniture, folks! They just don't make them like they used to!

I like to believe, as beautiful as it started out, that the previous owners, who were surely chic, would appreciate it's new life and the great color combo.

There's just something about black paired with brass that makes me feel regal and well traveled...something straight out of an old black and white movie from the 1930's...

I can just imagine. Can't you?

    1. I used BM on this piece and sanding was done with a small sanding block.

  10. I also painted a dresser and end table black and love it. I did not replace the hardware but love what you used. Thinking I should change it but haven't seen anything like yours. ( My furniture was circa 1966)

  11. I'm completely new to all DIY projects, but have several old dressers I'm going to try to rehab. Two weeks ago they were on their way to the dumb. Since then, I discovered pinterest and read your entire blog! I saw someone asked what type of paint you used but I'm too new to know what BM means. Can you explain? After sanding a bit to distress, do you put a sealer over it? Thanks for all of the inspiration!

  12. Love it! Absolutely gorgeous! I recently painted a dresser, but didn't sand the sides of the drawer front panel, so it is a little tight when closing. Do you sand yours, or is there another option?

    1. I haven't really had that problem so I'm not really sure. Maybe next time sand before? Thank you!
